Workforce Development: CCI was contracted to provide consultation and recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the development of the Public Health Apprentice Program (PHAP). This field staff career development project focused on developing program operations and a management workforce with state and local experience and capable of rapid deployment anywhere in the United States and abroad to meet public health emergencies. The structure of the pilot program was based on a previous assessment of the assignment of public health advisors and medical officers to state and local health programs, and on input from CDC staff and staff of state and local health agencies and their constituent organizations. In support of PHAP, CCI staff assisted in the recruitment of a first class of PHAP participants as well as the delivery of a didactic training program for individuals entering the program.
